Fabric paint keeps hardening after it leaves the studio. Give a new KAORA piece 72 hours of open air before its first wash — and wear it as much as you like in the meantime.

How To Wash
Hand-Painted
Clothes.
Every KAORA piece is painted by hand on a premium blank, which means it needs a little more care than a printed tee. Follow these six steps and the artwork will stay as sharp as the day it left the studio.

Wash cold, wash gently
Turn the garment inside out, then machine wash cold — 30°C / 86°F or below — on a delicate cycle. Heat is what makes painted fabric crack, so never use warm or hot water.

Choose the right detergent
A mild liquid detergent is best. Skip bleach, oxygen brighteners, fabric softener and stain removers — they break down the binder that holds paint to cotton and dull the pigment.

Never tumble dry
Hang or lay flat to dry, out of direct sunlight. A dryer combines heat and friction, the two things that lift paint off a garment fastest.

Iron around the art
If you need to press it, iron inside out on the lowest setting and stay off the painted area. A pressing cloth over the reverse side is the safest option.

Store it flat
Fold with a sheet of tissue over the design, or hang on a wide hanger. Avoid stacking heavy items on top — long pressure can transfer paint onto neighbouring fabric.
